Tsukada Sensei Course: October 2025
Sunday 19/10/2025 again afforded us at Forge Shotokan the opportunity to participate in the British Sankukai Karate Association's Annual Special Instructor course with Ryozo Tsukada Sensei (9th Dan, Shito Ryu)
Another exceptional course with Sensei, covering kata bunkai for Pinan/Heian Yondan and some great partner drills.

It's always great to see new and old faces attend these courses, where everyone takes something away to work on, practice and improve. Many thanks to Sensei Calvin Collins for the invitation to participate and to Tsukada Sensei for his time, wisdom, and thoughtful instruction.
Be sure to follow us on social channels for updates on new courses and training opportunities for the rest of the year.

Mixed Styles Course 22/06/2025
Sunday 22/06/2025 was again a chance for Forge Shotokan to host another knowledge sharing mixed styles karate course; our third in the current series, again featuring Sensei Calvin Collins (6th Dan Sankukai), Sensei Glyn Jones (7th Dan Goju Ryu) and Forge Shotokan Chief Instructor Stuart Hughes (7th Dan Shotokan), at our Aston Fields Dojo.

As featured on the course literature, Maai was the focus of this course. A sometimes misunderstood and often criminally under-appreciated aspect of every karate-ka's martial arts experience. All three instructors covered theory and drills related to their styles approach and some common technical insight.

It is always a pleasure to get together with our friends from across the country and train, and Sunday was no exception, it was a pleasure to host all attendees, and our 2 guest instructors. Many thanks to Sensei Collins and Sensei Jones for being so generous with their time and for their thoughtful instruction.
